Belgium(*) (5)

Paris is not exactly in Belgium, but provided a very welcome 2-day break for the 2 of us while Juleen stayed with Nonna. We missed the protests but enjoyed the sunny weather, the company of Jan and Lies, the fashion stores, the time for ourselves. And Paris, you looked more beautiful than ever!

There couldn't have been a better time to be in Belgium : Sunday 2 April was when the some of the world's best cyclists competed in 90th edition of the Tour of Flanders. We were standing on the Taaienberg, one of the 17 hills on the 258km tour, to see world champion Tom Boonen (picture) and others "fly" over the cobble stones. We returned to Anouk's mum's home to watch the final hour of the race on TV - with super hero Tom as the winner for the second time in a row!

Juleen met her cousin Antoine (who is 6 months younger than her) for the first time. Living on the opposite sides of the globe didn't seem to bother the two toddlers at all.

The youngest of the Vandepitte family got married - Francisca is now Mrs Thomas Gille. A beautiful wedding day started in church and ended in the Faculty Club in Leuven with a great dinner and fun dance. Sissi looked truly beautiful and her hubbie was kind of ok looking too - even though he may think it was the other way around ... first appearance of the VDP brothers in carnival dress, looking forward to those family portraits...

After a year in Sydney it was with lots of excitement that we returned to Belgium for a 2 week holiday. It turned out to be an unforgettable and hectic trip - over 1,000 km of travel from west to central Belgium, plus a return trip from Flanders to Paris. We'll show you some of the special moments, in no particular order, and we'll try to be brief ...

We stayed for a few days in the newly renovated guest room of Natje (Anouk's sister) and Scallie - which looks stunning. The whole Lagae family gathered for a lunch and in the afternoon we played some boules over a few beers ... can't get any more authentic!

Animal Farm

No better way to spend Easter Sunday than to visit the Royal Easter Show at the Olympic Park. We walked around with Ben & Leslie and many thousands Australian families. A great opportunity for Juleen to go face to face with all the animals she knows from her books! Posted by Picasa

Hello Nicole !!

Nicole Watson - on a mission to teach Australian corporates how to run their finance & treasury operations - visited us last week. Juleen showed special interest to the interior of the restaurant we went to, while we had a great time catching up and sharing stories. The night ended in the London Hotel where we had some beers, as in the old B-school days...
